It is natural to think that we are invincible, we are very healthy and nothing can or should happen to us. Or you can be like my friend, one whom we fondly call Aunty June, anything she is told or reads she suddenly feels that the symptoms are stirring within her body! These are 2 ends of the scale and we aim to bridge the gap by awareness. The material contained herein will be updated as more information and research results emerge and become established. We recommend that you consult your health care professionals when in doubt.
Insight to Breast Cancer
We have always associated breasts with women so it is not on our radar that men can also be “afflicted” with breast cancer. Even though the incidence of occurrence is much less in men, both sexes have the same level of fear or ignorance (for different reasons) and same delay and procrastination tactics when they discover an abnormal lump in their breast area.
Beyond Breast Cancer – Other Breast Conditions are more Common!
Although I set out originally to empower all on breast cancer, I received comments, suggestions and queries about the more common problems of the breasts – the benign (non cancerous) ones! Therefore, there are articles on the Human Breast, whether you should wear a bra; is it a lump or is it lumpinessmammogram myths; and specific articles to address breast issues for the younger women. There is more, do take the time to check out the breast facts section!
Be Breast AWARE!
Early detection saves lives! We all can help ourselves armed with knowledge and self detection techniques. We advocate a TEAM approach in the battle against breast cancer. Team members consist of the patient and the general practitioner or breast clinic doctor, surgeon, plastic surgeon, radiologist, pathologist, clinical oncologist, nurse, counsellors, support groups and rehabilitation therapist. The mental strength is crucial, so surround yourself with loved ones and lifelong friends.
